Spring in Northern Virginia

We don't usually travel to Virginia without the full family, but Uncle Ted and Aunt Kyra moved to Northern Virginia AND the Blue Jays had a series at Nationals so we decided to plan an adult weekend in NoVA. With the help of one of our very favorite babysitters people, Caroline was willing and able to stay the weekend and keep the kids safe, fed and in attendance of all of their sporting and school events. Thanks to her incredible help, we had an almost seamless visit.

The only hitch started the day we flew out, where Texas did it's springtime thing and opened up a downpour like you rarely see elsewhere in the US. Jon likes to leave early for the airport, but this day, he was even more convinced that arriving early was critical. As much as I hate to say it, he was completely right.

We drove through a literal flood to get to the airport and then only got out on an altered flight because we ran from gate to gate asking to be rebooked on our delayed flight. As it turns out, our original flight was cancelled and our new, negotiated flight got in a few minutes earlier - to an airport closer to our destination.

We were so excited to see their new house! Enjoy Kyra's delicious cooking in their new incredible kitchen, and they were generous to host my parents and Chris who live about 45 minutes away. Chris joined the guys in pinball heaven playing late into the night.

We were lucky to see Alex and Carly, not only at the baseball game, but we sat in a suite at Alex's invitation. Thank goodness, it was a chilly, windy game.

We had a warm and beautiful afternoon where Ted showed us around The Wharf, an area that has changed from non-approachable to a beautiful waterfront hangout. It was a realtime reminder on why we love the area and really enjoyed living there.

It was such a treat to see Rick and Mindy, get delicious pizza and then finish the night at Ted & Kyra's.

We made up for the lack of an outgoing airport bar drink on our way home. It was a great, though short, weekend with family and friends
