We almost made it! So close!
Exactly two weeks before Alex turned three, he got his first set of stitches. And it was so innocent! We were at the Children's Museum, he had just gone to the bathroom *on the potty(!!!)* and he ran out to tell our favorite museum employee how exciting this news was!
And then his foot caught, and he fell, eye-first into a rounded table made for science experiments. I know kids get stitches all of the time, and it could have been so, SO much worse, but as my very pregnant self was carrying a bleeding and hysterical baby out of the museum I realized how underprepared I was for this situation.
I never considered that you have to buckle the injured child into a car seat, and then have the wherewithal to figure out where to actually go in an emergency. Lucky for us, Texas has an ER or Urgent Care around every corner, so I took him closest to our house. It was a short, but excruciating 10 minute drive.
And while the ER was close and convenient, it was not a pediatric center. The doctor was qualified, but not great with children, and his level of patience with my scared and throbbing two-year-old was frustrating. That ER is now closed, I'm not surprised.
But THEN.... Alex turned THREE years old!!
We celebrated at his school,
With his friends at the same museum that maimed his eye two weeks earlier:
And at home with family. Look at that happy face waiting to blow out the candles on his cupcake!

This little accident-prone sweetheart is easy to please and loves to give his "two-thumbs-up" review of everything. Including birthdays. Happy birthday sweet baby, we love you so.
